Apress is a new publishing company devoted to meeting the needs of programming professionals. Our unique approach grew out of conversations between Dan Appleman and Gary Cornell, consistently best-selling authors for this audience. The key observation they made was:
Many programming books are of such low quality that they are a complete waste of time. Computer professionals need quality books that are not just rehashes of the documentation.
The obvious question is: how to get manuscripts of the highest quality? Obviously, by attracting the best authors. But how can a publishing company attract these authors?
