Estonian Academy of Arts is the only public university in Estonia providing higher education in art, design, architecture, media, art history and conservation. Therefore it is sensing its social responsibility in organisation of study, creative, research and development activities and advanced training and assurance of its quality in the fields of visual culture affecting cultural space and living environment of the society. The quality of material culture, product development and living environment of the society is directly related to the quality of operation of the university.
In its activities the Estonian Academy of Arts is aiming towards development of creative work and research in various fields of art and culture and has in recent years taken decisive steps in the field of architectural and design research. The university is monitoring changes taking place in the society and international trends and is proceeding from these in opening and amendment of curricula, wherefore contemporary competence-based curricula, study quality and creative study environment are priorities of the Estonian Academy of Arts. Partners in these activities are public as well as private sector.Estonian Academy of Arts is a member of various international networks and associations. In 2006 the university belongs into international association of design universities CUMULUS, Euroean Association of Art Universities ELIA, European Association of Architectural Education EAAE, Design Management Institute, cooperation network of Nordic design universities CIRRUS and cooperation network of Nordic art universities KUNO. Estonian Academy of Arts is a member of the Estonian Cooperation Network of Academic Advanced Training EATK and ELNET Consortium.
EKA has conducted constant and good cooperation with the British Council, Finnish Institute, Goethe Institute, Danish Cultural Institute and French Cultural Centre in Estonia, as well as the Embassy of the United States of America.
